Introduction - Cynthia Rocco
I am from Hudson, Ohio. I am seeking a School Nurse License. I graduated with a BSN from Kent State in the mid 90's. I am currently in my second year as a district nurse in a public school with 5000 students. I have 9+ schools that I supervise and 11 direct reports (4 LPN's and 7 medical assistants). While I am seeking a School Nurse License, my passion and heart is with students with special needs and chronic illnesses. I have 2 classes left before I get my license. I think this class will be both challenging and rewarding for me. Challenging in the fact I am not a special education teacher and I am intimidated by the entirely online component - but rewarding because I love the content. Most of my classes have been with a small cohort and only minimally online.

Cindy, I felt a sense of comfort when I knew you were enrolling in this class. As a school nurse, I really feel I am "out of my element" enrolled in a class with mostly teachers. However, I feel we will all be able to learn from each other by focusing on different viewpoints. I am really impressed with the size of your school and the enormous responsibilities that go along with being the district nurse of a large school. Delegation is very hard, especially concerning medical needs of students.
ReplyDeleteJodi, I also am in my car and on the phone all day. My hope is to actually see my office by the end of September. You are right that delegation is hard but it is key. I find my school's model very interesting employing medical assistants that I help educate for the school setting and support. I was just in a 504 meeting this morning and have another one tomorrow. I love getting the teacher's perspectives and helping them get the medical information they need
ReplyDeleteCynthia, it is nice to learn a little bit about you. I think it is amazing how many student you have in your school. That takes a very talented person to be able to handle that responsibility. Secondly, I like that you were able to come right out and say what scares you and what interests you about this course. I do want to become a teacher, however I am not one yet. In a sense, we are in the same situation. I am intimidated by how of our classmates are already teachers, but it is exciting to learn from them and their experiences as well. I look forward to hearing more of your stores as well this semester!
