I agree that
collaboration between educators and families has been difficult to achieve. As
a result, research has shown that using the seven principles of partnerships
will help form a healthy and collaborative relationship among families and
professionals. When transition plans are developed I agree that successful collaboration
and problem solving are necessary; however, a recent article done by “Journal
of Adolescent Health” stated that adolescents often face barriers when
trying to receive high quality family planning services due to “lack of
knowledge, inability to use parental health insurance, out of pocket costs,
transportation, unsatisfactory experiences with providers, and inadequate
opportunities to discuss family planning needs (Mead et al., July 2015).” I
think this needs to be addressed and changed, especially for students with exceptional
learning needs with limited communication and daily living skills. What can be
done to change these barriers? I think if collaboration between family service
centers, families, and educators would strengthen there would be a positive correlation.
