Blog Post #5: Early
Intervention. What Services Hold
Promise?
Early
intervention represents a consortium of services, not just educational
assistance but also physical health care, mental health care, social services,
family supports, and other benefits (speech therapy, occupational therapy, etc).
The aim of early intervention is to affect positively the overall
development of the student-his or her social, emotional, physical, and
intellectual well-being. Many experts believe that incorporating a
"whole child" approach is necessary because all of these elements are
interrelated and dependent on one another. Given your respective
professional backgrounds and experiences, what specific early intervention
services to you believe hold promise for both young children, elementary
children, middle school students, as well as high school adolescents?
Understand
that the term early intervention is not simply applied to young children – but
any students –elementary children, middle school students – or high school
adolescents that are in need of intervention.
